Tom Lembong: 9 Months Challenging Behind Bars

The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Thomas Trikasih Lembong alias Tom Lembong said his life during his detention at the Cipinang Detention Center (Rutan) was quite challenging. This is because the case involving him is not an ideal legal process.

"From the start, I felt that what I experienced was not part of the ideal legal process. I had 9 months of challenging behind walls and bars," said Tom Lembong after being released, Friday, August 1.

According to him, a lot of time has been spent to reflect. One of them is about the legal system in Indonesia.

"I also have a lot of time to reflect, I reflect that it will not only happen to me but also how our legal system works," he said.

Because, the law that is implemented must protect the entire community. In addition, Tom stated that his freedom did not want to be the end of everything. The former Trade Minister will continue to voice justice.

Especially regarding the legal system without favoring any party or interests.

"I want to voice a warning and if possible help so that our legal system is more fair and more clear to the Truth over certain narrow interests," said Tom Lembong.

,Tom Lembong was officially released from detention. The release was after PR approved Presidential letter number R43/Pres072025 dated July 30, 2025 regarding a request for consideration from the Indonesian House of Representatives for the granting of abolition on behalf of Tom Lembong's brother.

"Abolition of Tom Lembong. Pres number R43/Pres 07 2025 dated July 30, 2025, on the consideration of the DPR RI's approval of giving an abolition to Tom Lembong's brother," said Dasco.

Abolition is the elimination or elimination of a criminal event. This term is contained in Article 14 of the 1945 Constitution which regulates the prerogative or privilege of the president by taking into account the considerations of the DPR
