Open Voice Karimata Related To Single Concert Potential And New Album

JAKARTA - Karimata has returned to the national music stage. Since the last two years, the famous jazz fusion band in the 1980s has appeared at several music festivals, namely The Papandayan Jazz Festival in Bandung in 2023, and Lintas Melawai in Jakarta and The Benoa Port Jazz & Culture Festival in Bali in 2024.

For this year, Karimata is listed as the line-up of two major jazz music festivals in the country, namely Prambanan Jazz and BRI Jazz Gunung Series on Bromo.

Asked the possibility to hold a single concert, Karimata's oldest member, Candra Darusman, said that this possibility was still open, although it was not easy to realize.

"There is a interest, but no plan yet," said Candra on the sidelines of Karimata's appearance at BRI Jazz Gunung Series 1 Bromo.

A similar answer was also given by Candra when asked about the possibility of Karimata working on a new album. It was stated that the intention to produce new works was always there, but the plan had not been prepared.

A few times there are many who recommend it. But in the meantime we are appearing to quench the thirst of our friends who listen to Karimata," said Candra. We had a vacuum, then they also just made a book about Karimata. The book is what they make, our fans are about Karimata's journey from the beginning until now.

Candra continued, 'We just appear to fulfill their request. But I don't think it will rule out if we make a new album or something like that.'

There are reasons for the difficulty of Karimata working on a new album. In addition to many other activities, it is stated that it is difficult to be able to make music with high intensity as when the personnel were young.

We each have a busy life. Our skills are also, we know ourselves. In the past, we were still enthusiastic. It's like badminton players, at that time they were in their 20s, now they're 50, they don't play anymore, because the smash is not hard enough," said Candra.

"I want to grow up, I'm just old," said Budhy Haryono.

For information, Karimata in her last few appearances played with the formation of Candra Darusman (keyboards), Aminoto Kosin (keyboards), Kharis (guitar), Indro Hardjodikoro (bass), Budhy Haryono (drums), and Dony Koeswinarno (flute, saksofon).

Those who are Karimata's original personnel are Candra Darusman, Aminoto Kosin, and Budhy Haryono.

Meanwhile, other original personnel are Erwin Gutawa (bass) and Denny TR (guitar) who were unable to appear in the last few years' performances and the late Uce Haryono (drums).
