BYD Opens Ordering Yangwang U8L Long Luxury SUV, Rolls-Royce Cullinan Challenger With 24 Karat Gold

JAKARTA China's automotive giant BYD has hit the luxury vehicle market again with the start of their full-size mainstay EUV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) presale, Yangwang U8L.

Yangwang is a luxury brand under the BYD umbrella that has been operating in China since January 2023. U8L itself is a larger variant of the original U8. Currently, the Yangwang model ranks include three cars, with Yangwang U7 as the latest product.

Dubbed the direct challenger Rolls-Royce Cullinan, this U8L is priced at an estimated price of 1,300,000 yuan or around Rp. 2.9 billion.

Launching CarNewsChina, August 1, Yangwang U8L looked stunning with a body measuring 5.4 meters long and a 24K gold-plated emblem. The main highlight of the U8L is the four-motor driving system capable of producing a combined power of 880 kW (1,180 hp), promising extraordinary performance.

Well, despite being under BYD giants, Yangwang faces slowing sales challenges in the domestic market. According to China EV DataTracker, they only shipped 1.003 domestic vehicles in the first half of 2025, a figure 5.5 times lower than the same period in 2024. To address this, BYD has ambitions to increase sales of their luxury divisions by launching them into overseas markets and expanding its lineup of models. This massive U8L Yangwang presale started on July 31.

Megah Design And Super Luxury Interior

The full name of this new Yangwang SUV is U8L Dingshi Edition. In a style, the U8L is in line with the standard U8, featuring a distinctive front with a large grille and integrated forward lights. However, the U8L has a length of 372 mm longer with a wheelbase extending 200 mm. The U8L rear section adopts a split tailgate instead of a beam door like the usual version, a clear reference to the Range Rover and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

Another interesting feature of Yangwang U8L is the 24K gold-plated emblem on the front, replacing the glassy badge on the standard U8. This elongated vehicle is available in two colors: black and gold, and uses a 23-inch massive rim. With dimensions 5400/2049/1921 mm and wheelbase 3,250 mm, Yangwang U8L is included in a major American SUV league like Cadillac Escalade.

The Yangwang U8L interior carries a three-line layout with a 2+2+2 seating configuration. The center console is equipped with three monitors: a 23.6-inch instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented driver touch screen, and a 23.6-inch monitor for the front passenger. The first and second row seats on the U8L are equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions of 14 dots. The SUV's gloves are also irradiated. Another luxury feature is a second row window that can be damped automatically, as well as a large screen mounted on the ceiling for second row passengers.

Monster Performance With Advanced Technology

Yangwang U8L adopts the DiPilot 600 system with three LiDAR sensors and a peak computing power of 600 TOPS. This allows the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) function on urban roads and highways, as well as advanced parking assistance. Car chassis adopts a Disus-P hydraulic suspension, and this massive SUV is also equipped with carbon-rough brakes.

As a range expander, Yangwang U8L has a 2 liter ICE turbo engine under the engine hood. This vehicle is powered by four electric motors that drive each wheel with a combined total output of 880 kW (1,180 hp) and a peak torque of 1,280 Nm. This car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hour in just 3.6 seconds, with a combined range of 1,000 km.
