One Piece Flag Ahead of Indonesian Independence Day, Central Jakarta Mayor: Fighters Once Risked Their Lives for the Red and White

JAKARTA - Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin urged all residents and building managers in Central Jakarta to begin raising the red and white flag ahead of the 80th anniversary of Indonesian independence.

"Flag raising can begin on Saturday, August 2, 2025," Arifin said on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Furthermore, Arifin also addressed the widespread display of flags depicting a skull and crossed bones (one piece).

Arifin asked the public to reflect on the independence struggle won by the nation's freedom fighters.

"To achieve independence, many national figures fought and sacrificed, both in terms of energy and material," said Arifin.

He believes that as Indonesian citizens, we can celebrate Independence Day by raising the red and white flag.

"We demonstrate our national spirit. In the past, freedom fighters risked their lives and property for the red and white flag. This is something we must remember," he said.

Arifin further expressed his desire to see the festivities of Indonesia's 80th anniversary visible from buildings in Jakarta, especially Central Jakarta.

As is known, several social media accounts have shown the phenomenon of raising the flag from the Japanese manga series, One Piece. The black One Piece flag, featuring a skull and straw hat, is flying in various locations ahead of Indonesia's 80th anniversary on August 17, 2025.
