Airlangga Says US Import Tariffs Will Be Valid On August 7, 2025
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that the import rate of 19 percent set by the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump, for Indonesia will take effect on August 7, 2025.
Airlangga explained that the tariff policy had been announced directly by Trump to 92 countries, including Indonesia and the negotiation process between the United States and Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN) was almost entirely completed.
"Indonesia as we know it has been completed (loss negotiations) and is valid on 7 (August 2025)," he told the media crew, Friday, August 1.
He added that the 19 percent tariff imposed on Indonesia was one of the lowest in the ASEAN region, with the exception of Singapore, which only received a tariff of 10 percent.
According to Airlangga, ASEAN countries that are in good relations with the US tend to get lower rates, including Indonesia.
"Some ASEAN countries are the lowest, countries that are indeed with America are also relatively good, 19 percent," he said.
Even so, Airlangga remains optimistic that Indonesia still has a competitive advantage in penetrating the US export market compared to other countries in the region.

"So far, it's the same, it's competitive with Thailand and Malaysia and the sector is a bit similar, but there are also differences, the important thing is that India's (import rates) are a little high," he said.
For information, India is subject to a 25 percent import rate by the US higher than Indonesia. In addition, India itself is one of Indonesia's main competitors in the textile and textile product (TPT) sector.
"If all levels of play field, it means just increasing competitiveness. And some of our commodities that America does not produce are given lower rates," he explained.
"Even for copper concentrate, copper cathode, it is zeroed (importing rates). So, that's in line with talks for strategic minerals, including copper. The US has announced as well," he added.
