Jakarta Will Implement Online Parking Booking, Observer: Don't Confuse Residents
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has discussed an online parking booking or booking system via cellphone. Transportation Observer, Yusa Cahya Permana assesses that there is one thing that needs to be considered.
According to the Chairman of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) of the DKI Jakarta Region, the DKI Provincial Government must be able to ensure that this program can be implemented consistently.
"Digitalization is a technology choice. The most important thing is policy enforcement and consistency in implementation, so that people also believe and are not confused," Yusa told reporters, Friday, August 1.
Yusa views that parking in Jakarta involves many issues, ranging from social, economic, to cultural. Thus, the DKI Provincial Government needs to direct the right approach in the discourse on digitizing parking.
He emphasized that parking digitization had been carried out several times in several areas. Reflecting on this experience, the DKI Provincial Government should not change service patterns so as not to confuse the public.
"The important thing is that the digitization of parking is part of the integral Jakarta transportation management strategy. One of them is so that parking does not interfere with road traffic, let alone disrupt existing public transportation services," he added.
Previously, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, revealed that his party was developing a parking booking system in the JakParkir application.
He explained that online parking bookings can be made before arriving at the parking location. However, when the parking area has been ordered, the duration of the parking use time has also begun to be calculated.
"Once he is in question of booking, then in the next few minutes it will be calculated starting from the margin of the road. (Recorded) that it has been calculated to be used," explained Syafrin.
Then, after the parking booking is made, the officer will receive a notification and immediately mark the parking lot that has been ordered.
"Our officer at the on-street parking location will receive a notification and immediately place the stick cone, (marking) that it has been booked," he said.

Furthermore, Syafrin admitted that the parking booking feature still needs time to be implemented carefully. The target is that all parking points in 244 Jakarta roads will have implemented this feature in the next two years.
"It needs to be studied first. We hope that 2027 will be implemented. 2027 includes the grand design of all of them," explained Syafrin.
