Trambesi Tree Planting Becomes A Continuation Solution For Carbon Emission Reduction On The Trans Sumatra Toll Road
LAMPUNG - Toll roads are one place that can contribute a lot of carbon emissions, because vehicles are passing through these roads. Carbon emissions are the release of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas and other greenhouse gases due to human activity such as burning transportation fuel, which has an impact on climate change and global warming.
With so many vehicles crossing the toll road every day, the carbon emissions produced are increasing and can cause environmental damage. Therefore, this must be overcome, one of which is by planting trambesi trees along toll roads.
Trembesi is a tree that has the highest ability to absorb carbon dioxide, so it can reduce carbon emissions. The planting of trambesi trees around toll roads is considered very good to help overcome climate change due to carbon emissions.
"The planting of trambesi around this infrastructure is one of the adaptation and mitigation strategies in climate change," said Lecturer of the Postgraduate Forestry Master, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung, Prof. Rahman Safe'i during the Planting Handover event of 23,171 Trambesi, in Bandar Lampung, Thursday, July 31, 2025.
"Because trambesi is a tree that has the highest ability to absorb carbon dioxide with an estimate of being able to absorb up to 28.5 tons of carbon emissions gas," he added.
Thus, the Bakti Environmental Djarum Foundation (BLDF) through the Djarum Trees for Life (DTFL) program handed over 23,171 trambesi trees to be planted on the Trans Sumatra toll road. This is a real step from BLDF to reduce carbon emissions on toll roads, for the sake of a better environment in the future.
Together with two partners managing the Trans Sumatra toll road, we have completed planting and maintenance. This is a real step towards reducing carbon, "said BLDF's Director Program, Jemmy Cahyadi, on the same occasion.
BLDF together with PT Bakauheuni Terbanggi Besar Toll and PT Waskita Sriwijaya Toll Road have planted 8,728 trambesi seeds and increased to 19,124 seeds on the Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar toll road, since four years ago.
This planting program is an initial milestone in efforts to support sustainable green development at the southern end of the Sumatra region. To date, more than 23,000 trambesi seedlings have successfully greened 179 kilometers of toll roads.
Not only stopping at the planting process, but DTFL also carries out maintenance for three years to ensure trees grow optimally. This activity is also highly supported by the Lampung government, which is said to be beneficial for life and preservation in the future.
"Implanting 23,171 trambesi means that we are planting hope, because trambesi is a tree that provides great benefits for life and the future," said the Expert Staff of the Governor for Government, Law and Politics representing the Governor of Lampung, Achmad Saefullah.
