Mayor Of Surabaya: Safeguard Our Parents And Siblings From COVID-19 By Not Going Home
SURABAYA - The Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, encouraged his citizens who could not go home for Lebaran this year because of the prohibition regulations from the central government in an effort to prevent and anticipate the spread of COVID-19.
"By not going home, we will take care of our parents and siblings. This is also so that we do not transmit or have the impact of COVID-19 on our families. Because we never know which of us will catch COVID-19," said Eri. Cahyadi at Surabaya City Hall, quoted by Antara, Friday, May 7.
Although it is hard to do, Mayor Eri Cahyadi is optimistic that by not going home, someone will indirectly protect the health of his parents and siblings.
Moreover, he said, Indonesia, especially the city of Surabaya, must be maintained so that the spread of COVID-19 does not increase again. One of the ways that can be done now is not going home and staying in the city of Surabaya.
"As good citizens, as good citizens of Surabaya, let's celebrate Eid Al-Fitr while adhering to health protocols, by staying in our beloved city," he said.
Even though this year's Eid Al-Fitr cannot meet face to face with parents or siblings, Eri Cahyadi hopes that the residents of Surabaya can still celebrate Lebaran solemnly.
"Let us celebrate the moment of Eid al-Fitr solemnly, and keep the relationship together even though we cannot meet face to face," he said.
Eri Cahyadi is optimistic that if residents are willing to follow the government's advice by not doing homecoming, the spread of COVID-19 can be resolved soon.
In addition, Eri Cahyadi again reminded the public to remain disciplined in maintaining health protocols because currently an effective way to suppress the spread of the pandemic is by diligently washing hands, wearing masks, and maintaining distance.
"Thank you, I entrust the City of Surabaya to all 'panjenengan' (you), how to solve the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining health protocols. By staying in our beloved city, by not doing homecoming on the day of Eid," he said.
