Trump Wants Deal To End Russia's War In Ukraine On August 8
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump insists he wants an agreement to end Russia's war in Ukraine by August 8. The United States submitted it to the United Nations Security Council on Thursday.
Both Russia and Ukraine must negotiate a lasting ceasefire and peace. It is time to reach an agreement. President Trump has emphasized that this must be done no later than August 8. The United States is ready to implement additional measures to secure peace," said senior US diplomat John Kelley to the 15-member council.
Trump on Tuesday said the United States would start charging and other measures against Russia 10-12 days if Moscow showed no progress in ending its war in Ukraine.
Kyiv and Moscow have held three rounds of negotiations in Istanbul this year resulting in exchanges of prisoners and bodies, but there has been no breakthrough to defuse the conflict that has lasted more than three years.
"We intend to continue negotiations in Istanbul," the Deputy Ambassador of Russia to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy, told the Security Council.
