Macau Open 2025: Alwi Wins Civil War Against Ubed

JAKARTA Men's singles Alwi Farhan managed to win a civil war against Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah in the second round of the Macau Open 2025 to reach the quarter-finals.

Alwi, who is the fifth seed to beat his partner in the rubber games 19-21, 21-17, and 21-17 at the Macao East Asian Games Dome on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

In the first game, Alwi actually had the upper hand over his compatriot with a score of 3-1. However, Ubed, Ubaidillah's nickname, scored five consecutive points and was dominant afterward.

He then lost momentum in the final points so that Alwi equalized 19-19. After that, Ubed got up with two consecutive points to secure the first game.

Alwi went smoothly in the second game even though Ubed had equalized 1-1. He scored three consecutive points to go forward and was no longer overtaken by his colleague.

Alwi went through an unregistered journey in the third game. After scoring two points, he appeared solid and did not give Ubed the opportunity, who came on as the 2025 junior Asian champion.

This victory made Alwi equalize head-to-head with Ubed to 1-1. He previously lost their first clash at the Indonesia Masters 100 2024.

In the quarter-finals, Friday, August 1, 2025, Alwi will face Jason Gunawan. The Hong Kong representative qualified for the last eight after winning over his third-seeded compatriot, Ng Ka Long Angus.
