Mental Revolution, Amorism Must Change Toxic Culture At Manchester United

JAKARTA - Luke Shaw supports Ruben Amorim's efforts to change the toxic culture of Manchester United. He said the Portuguese coach had the right to remove the 'lagging behind' player from the squad.

Shaw said Amorism is determined to raise standards at Old Trafford following Manchester United's worst season in more than 50 years.

The England National Team defender revealed that the coach had confirmed that every player who did not meet his demands would be eliminated.

"Mentality is very important for him. I think he often talks about it. Ruben demands 100 percent and that's it."

"He doesn't want less than that. If someone plays 85 or 90 percent, that's not enough for him."

"I think, especially this year, if you don't do the right thing, I don't think you will."

"It's not difficult to see from the outside what the situation is like. Often during my time here over the last few years, the situation has been very negative. The environment can be very toxic, completely unhealthy."

"We need a healthy, positive environment and have good energy and happiness," Shaw said, quoted by ESPN.

Amoram, yang ditunjuk pada November 2024, telah meninggalkan jejaknya di squad Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford has been loaned to Barcelona while a group of players - Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and cap Malacia - have been crossed out from pre-season tours to the United States.

Amoritam also emphasized that Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo's new players were brought to Old Trafford mainly because they showed a strong desire to play for the club.

"No more players are left behind in this group. I think you've seen what he's been doing in the last eight months, with various players and things like that, he doesn't care who the players are."

"I think if he doesn't follow what he wants, then that should be it, and I think it should be."

"His mentality, his demands, he is very firm towards the team. Everyone must put the team first."

"He has made it very clear. As a player, we fully support him and fully support his ideas and what he wants to implement in the team."

"I feel in the end, the manager has to do that because he is the one who will always risk his job," said the left back.

Amorim was under pressure after Manchester United finished in 15th place in the Premier League and lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the 2024/2025 Europa League final.

The pre-season tour to the United States is used as a refresher for players and staff ahead of the new season.

Shaw, Manchester United's longest-serving player, has pledged to assist his manager in efforts to raise standards in the squad.

"I think we as players, especially those with more experience, need to demand more than just regular training."

"The level of training, maintaining consistency when we do this and that, ensuring no one comes late or anything like that."

"I think whatever the manager wants, we as players have to make it happen. We fully support that," he said.
