Failed Acute Kidneys In Children, Recognize Symptoms, Causes, And Prevention

JAKARTA - Recently, cases of acute kidney failure have been found in many children, especially those aged between 6 months and 18 years. In the last two months, the number of cases has continued to increase.

Seeing the increase in cases, the Ministry of Health urges parents to remain vigilant, but there is no need to panic. Reporting from the Ministry of Health's website, here are the initial symptoms that can be a sign of acute kidney failure, such as:

1. Diarrhea

2. Vomit

3. Fever that lasts for 3 to 5 days

4. Cough and runny nose

5. The amount of urine (artwater) has decreased drastically, even unable to urinate at all

If the child shows these symptoms, they should be immediately taken to the nearest health facility so that they can be examined further.

According to dr. Yanti Herman, MH. Kes, who currently serves as Acting Director of Referral Health Services, parents are asked to continue to monitor their child's condition and not delay examination if there are suspicious symptoms.

As a further response step, the government has also issued an official policy to handle cases of acute kidney failure in children. This policy is contained in the Decree of the Director General of Health Services Number HK.02.02./2/I/3305/2022.

The contents of this letter explain how medical personnel and health workers in health care facilities must treat patients with acute kidney failure appropriately.

Through this policy, it is hoped that all parties, both medical personnel and the community, can work together to prevent and deal with acute kidney failure in children from an early age.
