Liverpool's Pre-season Match Continues Despite Tsunami Warning In Japan

JAKARTA - Liverpool's pre-season friendly match against J.League 1 club, Yokohama F. Marinos, continues despite tsunami warnings in Japan.

An 8.8-SR earthquake rocked Russia's east coast on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, early in the morning local time, triggering the issuance of a tsunami warning in Japan, where Liverpool are currently on pre-season tours.

The tsunami then hit Hokkaido, an island in northern Japan, in the early hours of Wednesday local time.

However, Liverpool's match at Nissan Stadium continues, with public transportation services to Yokohama running normally.

Arne Slot's team also won 3-1 through Florian Wirtz's first goal for Liverpool, plus goals from Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha. Meanwhile, Yokomaha was only able to score one goal throughTENaka, which opened the scoring first.

Previously, the Reds were beaten 2-4 by AC Milan in a friendly match in Hong Kong on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after starting their pre-season with a win against Preston North End in Deepdale earlier this month.

After the match against Yokohama F Marinos, Liverpool will fly back to England to face Athletic Club in two friendly matches on August 4, 2025.

Meanwhile, new player Hugo Ekitike has made his debut against Yokohama F Marinos. He started the party after his 69 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt.
