BRIN Develops Organic Waste Management Application

JAKARTA The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) announced that it is developing a waste management application. This application is designed to simplify the disposal process.

Through the Macroeconomic and Financial Research Center (PREMK), BRIN stated that this application was developed with the principle of a green circular economy. In addition to being a data-based empowerment tool, this application was created to connect the management ecosystem.

That way, both households, TPS3R managers, waste banks, and even business actors who take advantage of waste can be more connected. Making applications like this is believed to create added value from organic waste.

"We want to encourage the relationship between all actors in the waste management ecosystem ... through one digital platform that is inclusive and easy to use," said BRIN PREMK Perset Ratna Ayu Saptati at the Workshop and Forum Group Discussion (FGD) Organic Waste Management Model, quoted on Thursday, July 31.

One area that is considered to need waste management applications is Magelang. Currently, the district has 31 TPS3R, but not all places have a good reporting and monitoring system.

In fact, TPS3R needs to have a dashboard or information system that can help them in making decisions. By developing an integrated waste management application, the management challenges from upstream to downstream are considered to be resolved.

In the forum, Indonesian Waste & Wishes Practitioner Melchior Raka Daksattama agreed that this management technology was needed. However, this digital ecosystem needs to be built by taking into account the clarity of incentives, logistics flow, and community support.

The reason is, the challenges of technology adoption are still being faced today, especially in various areas that are not yet fully accessible to the internet. The hope is that this useful application can have a simple interface with easy-to-use reporting features.

"This application developed (has) a fairly simple and user-friendly interface, this is a good start. In the future, various parties need cooperation so that this application and activity can be sustainable and beneficial for the community," said Raka.
