The Belawan Prosecutor's Office Demands The Death Penalty For 6 Drug Defendants

The Belawan District Attorney (Kejari), North Sumatra (North Sumatra), has demanded the death penalty for six defendants in the methamphetamine-type narcotics case in the last six months.

"Throughout the last six months from January to June 2025, we have demanded the death penalty of six defendants," said Head of the Pidum Section of the Belawan Kejari, Yogi Fransis Taufik, quoted by ANTARA, July 31.

In addition, he said again, the Belawan Kejari also demanded a life sentence of three other defendants in drug cases from January to June 2025.

His party said that the claim with a maximum criminal offense was filed because it was considered that narcotics cases had a serious impact on the community.

"This is part of our commitment to provide a deterrent effect on drug offenders," he said again.

According to Yogi, this criminal charge was given after going through the prosecution process according to applicable legal procedures.

Then, considering the facts of the trial, the evidence revealed, and the consequences of the crime.

"This death and life sentence was not imposed carelessly. Prosecutors work based on evidence and legal rules, and pay attention to the community's sense of justice," he asserted.

Yogi added that handling cases with maximum demands is a form of the seriousness of the Belawan Kejari ranks. Especially, reducing the number of dangerous crimes, especially narcotics because it is very disturbing to the people in the jurisdiction of the Belawan Kejari.

"In the future, we will continue to improve coordination with other law enforcement officers so that drug trafficking and other serious crimes can be suppressed," said Yogi.
