Watch Out! The South Java Sea To The Indian Ocean Potentially Hit By 4 Meter Waves
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that high waves that could endanger shipping have the opportunity to approach a number of Indonesian waters from July 31 to August 3, 2025.
According to information on the official BMKG website quoted by ANTARA on Thursday, July 31, during that period waves as high as 2.5 to four meters were likely to occur in the Indian Ocean west of the Mentawai Islands, west of Lampung, and west of Bengkulu.
The southern waters of Banten, West Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Central Java, and East Java as well as the western, central and eastern Arafuru Sea also have the opportunity to experience waves as high as 2.5 to four meters.
Waves as high as 1.25 to 2.5 meters during July 31 to August 3, 2025 are expected to appear in the northern part of the Malacca Strait, the western Indian Ocean of the Nias Islands and Aceh, as well as the southern Indian Ocean of West Nusa Tenggara, Bali, and East Nusa Tenggara.
The Java Sea, Flores Sea, Bali Sea, Banda Sea, Karimata Strait, Makassar Strait, Seram Sea, and the northern Pacific Ocean of Papua are also expected to arrive waves as high as 1.25 to 2.5 meters during that period.
BMKG said that the wind in northern Indonesia at that time generally moved from east to south at a speed of 4 to 25 knots, while in the south the wind was blowing from southeast to southwest at a speed of 6 to 30 knots.

The BMKG reminded that high waves and wind patterns could pose a risk to shipping safety and appealed to boat and ship operators as well as coastal communities to be aware of them.
