JF3 2025: Experts Believe Indonesia Has Great Potential In The World Fashion Industry

JAKARTA - The Indonesian fashion industry is considered to have great potential to compete in the international arena, not only in terms of trends and styles, but also because of the rich culture that is a strong narrative in each of its works.

Publisher of VOGUE Philippines Ramon Galicia assesses that the main strength of Indonesian fashion lies in the textile and cloth industry which is still alive and rich in diversity.

"The thing I like about Indonesia is the textile industry and its fabrics are very strong. It's an advantage. Creativity can develop when materials are available. You can produce from scratch," said Galicia in a speech meeting entitled Building an Asia-Connected Fashion Ecosystem: From Indonesia to the World which presents a number of fashion industry players from various countries in Jakarta, Monday.

He sees that every province in Indonesia has a distinctive fabric technique and motif, opening up great opportunities for creative collaboration and product expansion to the global market.

In line with Galicia's opinion, Singapore's VOGUE publisher Bettina von Schlippe emphasized the importance of building an ecosystem that supports cross-border and sector collaboration.

If you just look at numbers, that's not enough. We need more real action, building connections. Collaboration is key," said von Schlippe.

Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival 2025 advisor and founder of LAKON Indonesia Thresia Mareta stated that Indonesian fashion players still need a lot of preparation to be able to compete at the global level. According to him, improving product quality is the main requirement.

"I think Indonesia still needs a lot of preparation to talk in the international market. The main mission is to improve quality," said Thresia.

The speech gathering was part of a series of Indonesian LAKON campaigns in lifting local cultural heritage through a contemporary approach. One of the campaigns was realized through a special collaboration with French young designer Victor Clavelly and CGI artist Hélo totale Bouchot, who marked the synergy between tradition and innovation in the increasingly connected Asian fashion ecosystem.
