Prabowo Doesn't Want To Disrupt The Capital City, DPR Supports Rational Steps On IKN
JAKARTA - Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mohamad Toha expressed his support for the attitude of President-elect Prabowo Subianto who will sign the Presidential Decree (Keppres) to move the capital city to the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, provided that infrastructure readiness and infrastructure are prepared.
According to Toha, Prabowo's approach is very rational because it prioritizes the nation's long-term interests and keeps this project away from a ceremonial approach alone.
"I fully support Pak Prabowo's attitude in not being in a hurry to sign the Presidential Decree on the relocation of the capital city," Toha told reporters, Wednesday, July 30.
He emphasized that the transfer process should not be carried out in a hurry and requires careful planning. Moreover, President Prabowo requested that all supporting facilities and infrastructure in IKN be really ready before running the government in the next three years.
"Preparedness of facilities and infrastructure, including access to transportation, communication networks, and government facilities, is the main key so that the transition process does not cause chaos in public services," said Toha.
As a member of Commission II in charge of domestic government affairs, Toha reminded that political support for the relocation of the capital should not ignore objective conditions in the field.
"The next three years is the ideal time to make sure everything goes according to plan. Do not let the transfer be carried out just for the sake of symbolization, but not ready to support the function of government," he said.
Toha also highlighted the importance of public participation and transparency in the development of IKN. He hopes that the government will involve local communities and make IKN a future city that is inclusive, green, and technology-based.
Previously, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the completeness of facilities and infrastructure was the main requirement so that the Presidential Decree on the relocation of the capital city could be signed by Prabowo. These facilities include infrastructure for executive, legislative, and judicial.
The government targets this readiness to be realized in the next three years, although the challenges are big, especially in allocating the infrastructure development budget as a whole.
