The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Questions Fiona Handayani Regarding Alleged Google Cloud Corruption at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned Fiona Handayani, a special staff member of former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim, for questioning regarding alleged corruption in the Google Cloud procurement process within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

The questioning was conducted on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, amidst an ongoing investigation. "Yes, there is an investigation," said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when confirmed on Wednesday.

However, Budi declined to elaborate on Fiona's summons due to the confidential nature of the investigation. He only confirmed that the request for information from the person concerned is still ongoing.

"Because it's still an investigation, of course we can't provide details yet," he said.

Previously, Acting Deputy for Enforcement at the KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, stated that the alleged corruption in the procurement of Google Cloud digital storage services is being investigated to determine the possibility of irregularities in the procurement process.

"This is what we're currently investigating. Was there an overspending or something else?" said Asep on Saturday, July 26.

Asep explained that the procurement of this service took place in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, the government implemented an online school policy to limit the spread of the virus.

According to him, Google Cloud is used to store learning activity data, such as assignments and student exam results, throughout Indonesia. The way this service works is said to be similar to the cloud-based storage commonly used on smartphones.

"If we want to store photos, videos, or whatever, we store them in the cloud. We pay for that. We pay for it. Well, this too. The cloud is what we're currently investigating," he emphasized.

Asep also emphasized that the investigation into this case is different from the alleged corruption case involving Chromebook procurement being handled by the Attorney General's Office (AGO).

"Google Cloud is a software. The software is used to store data, store data from all over Indonesia, from all schools in Indonesia," said the KPK's Director of Investigations.
