Airport In Kamchatka Earthquake Point M 8.7 Russia Returns To Operation
JAKARTA - Flights to and from Kamchatka, Russia returned to normal after being hit by a devastating earthquake.
Citing the BBC, Wednesday, July 30, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky International Airport authorities said planes that had been delayed arrivals until departure could now continue their journey.
Kamchatka is known to be the epicenter of the 8.7 magnitude (M) earthquake that occurred on Wednesday, July 30 this morning.
Local officials said flights were back on schedule. The runway was declared safe not to be affected by the earthquake.
However, it was admitted that the earthquake had damaged airport sky panels. When the earthquake occurred, passengers were immediately evacuated temporarily to the airport waiting room.
The impact of the earthquake also caused one airline passenger at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky International Airport in eastern Russia to suffer minor injuries.
