Viral, Tanah Abang Thugs Extort IDR 100,000 from Truck Drivers: "I Have the Receipt, Boss, It's Safe"

JAKARTA - A truck driver was once again the target of an extortion attempt by thugs on Jalan Kebon Melati 1, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

The extortion incident was recorded by the truck driver. The perpetrators used a forceful demand for IDR 100,000.

During the incident, the perpetrators pretended to be escorting the truck.

"Boss, we have an escort, boss. This guy is the proof. I'm afraid I'm lying. How much is it? 100,000. We know it's okay, okay? It's safe," said the truck driver fearfully as he was extorted by the Tanah Abang thugs on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Unusually, the perpetrators gave the targeted driver a receipt for IDR 100,000.

"I have the receipt, boss. 100,000," the perpetrators told the victim in the amateur video recording.

Allegedly afraid of dealing with the thugs, the truck driver ended up giving the money to the perpetrators.

"That's it, we're safe," the victim said bitterly.

The video recording of the extortion by the thugs then went viral on social media. The Tanah Abang Metro Police, upon receiving the viral report, immediately launched an investigation.

"The Tanah Abang Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating the incident," said First Inspector Ruslan, Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police, when confirmed by VOI on Wednesday, July 30, 2020.

Meanwhile, the truck driver who was the victim of the extortion has not yet reported the incident to the Tanah Abang Metro Police.

"The victim has not yet filed a police report. Further developments will be reported," he said.
