A Tsunami Hit By Ports And Tourist Cities In Hokkaido Japan After Russia Was Hit By An 8.7 M Earthquake
JAKARTA - A tsunami wave hit Japan after an 8.7 magnitude (M) earthquake rocked eastern Russia on Wednesday, July 30 morning.
Quoting Al Jazeeraa, one of the affected areas is in northern Japan. The tsunami hit Tokachi Port, Kushiro Port, Nemuro Hanasak tourist city, Badminton to Erimo.
A tsunami as high as 30 cm to 40 cm hit a number of areas in northern Hokkaido.
Local authorities have appealed to foreign tourists visiting Hokkaido and in particular to Japan to ask local residents for help in finding shelter if they are affected by the tsunami as an urgent mitigation measure.
