Asteroids As Big As Planes Will Approach Earth, This Is What NASA Says

JAKARTA An asteroid will approach Earth on Wednesday, July 30. Based on the results of NASA monitoring, the asteroid, named 2025 OL1, will travel at a speed of 27,000 kilometers per hour.

The size of this aircraft is still relatively small, which is only about 30 meters or the equivalent of the size of the aircraft. Even though it is accompanied by its high speed, this asteroid will certainly not be dangerous for Earth.

The reason is, this asteroid will only cross Earth. According to NASA data, this asteroid will approach within a fairly safe distance, which is about 1.29 million kilometers. Once it reaches that point, OL1 will go away from Earth.

The asteroid approach will be included in the classification if it fulfills two things. First, the asteroid must approach within a distance of less than 7.4 kilometers. Second, the asteroid must be large in size, at least 85 meters.

OL1 can be included in a dangerous classification, but its size does not meet the requirements. In addition, NASA has also confirmed that OL1 is not close enough to harm Earth and its inhabitants.

Although its status is harmless, the asteroid is being monitored regularly by scientists in various countries, including NASA. This monitoring continues to ensure that asteroids do not get off the expected path.

Scientists will monitor the trajectory of the asteroid continuously. The reason is, this trajectory can undergo changes at any time due to gravitational forces or other factors.
