The National Police Chief Explains The Development Of Oplosan Rice Cases, 4 Big Producers Rise Investigations

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said dozens of rice producers had been examined in investigating allegations of rice circulation not in accordance with quality standards or mixed rice. Four of them are suspected of committing no crime so that their status is upgraded to investigation.

"There are already 16 manufacturers that we are currently examining, clarifying. And now we have raised fingerprints on 4 major producers," said Sigit in his statement, Tuesday, July 29.

The four rice producers are PT FS, PT WPI, SY, and SR. In an effort to uncover alleged criminal acts, investigators are still collecting evidence and clues.

Sigit conveyed that the action taken by the National Police was based on the results of an investigation by the Ministry of Agriculture on June 26, 2025, against 212 rice brands in 10 provinces.

The investigation showed serious violations. Of the 232 samples tested, 189 brands were declared incompatible with the quality of rice.

From the results of the deepening, it was found that 71 samples of rice did not match the SNI, 139 samples did not match the SNI as well as were sold above the Highest Retail Price (HET), and 3 premium rice samples did not match the SNI and the packaging weight did not match the label. In fact, there are 19 rice brands that committed three violations at once: not according to the SNI, sold more than the HET, and weighed below the standard.

Currently, the National Police has conducted laboratory tests on 9 rice brands, of which 8 brands were declared not according to quality standards or SNIs.

"This means that the position is below the standard related to the specified regulations, be it rice in premium and medium packaging," he said.

Until now, the National Police has examined 39 witnesses and 4 experts, as well as conducted searches, confiscated evidence, and installed police lines at producers' production sites and warehouses.

On the other hand, Sigit added that efforts to take action against naughty practices were not only carried out at the National Police Headquarters level but in the ranks of the regional police.

So far, a number of similar disclosures have also occurred in several areas. The Riau Police, for example, managed to uncover the mode of rice reject which was mixed into medium rice and then repacked and sold as Bulog's SPHP rice.

A similar case was also handled in East Kalimantan, with evidence of about 4 tons of rice that had been secured.

"We are committed to taking firm action against the practice of mixed rice, because it is very detrimental to the community and contradicts the President's instructions so that food is really maintained in quality and distribution," said Sigit.
