Sri Mulyani Kenang The Figure Of Kwik Kian Gie Plays A Role In IMF Negotiations, World Bank, And Paris Club
JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati recalled the big role of Kwik Kian Gie in difficult times in the national economy after the 1998 monetary crisis.
He called Kwik a figure who helped build the important foundations of Indonesia's economic reform through various international forums and negotiations.
"We are together in various negotiations including the Paris Club, IMF, and World Bank. Those are difficult times for the economy during a crisis, and there are so many times for the foundation for reform to be built by Pak Kwik," he said while mourning at the Sentosa Funeral Home at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 29.
He explained that at that time, Indonesia was in a very challenging position and the role of Kwik Kian Gie as Head of Bappenas was very crucial. He is active in various negotiations and important decisions that determine the direction of national economic recovery.
"It's a legacy about his concern about Indonesia. He always really hopes that Indonesia will become a sovereign country, at a time when we are experiencing an economic crisis. We hope that our economy will also be maintained when I am also the National Economic Council (DEN) under President Gus Dur, he is in the Bappenas position," added Sri Mulyani.
Sebagai bagian dari tim ekonomi di masa transisi pasca krisis, Sri Mulyani menyampaikan apresiasi dan rasa hormat atas jasa-jasa Kwik Kian Gie yang menurutnya masih dirasakan hingga kini.
"We are very grateful and very appreciate his services, which continue to protect Indonesia, convince, increasingly ensure that Indonesia continues to be built with sovereignty, welfare. Side by side with the community and the independence of the nation," he said.

Not long after, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto also mourned the body of Kwik Kian Gie at the Sentosa Funeral Home of Gatot Subroto Army Hospital. He also knew the figure of Kwik when he was still the Head of Bappenas.
Airlangga sees Kwik as a nationalist economist who has an important role in navigating the Indonesian economy in difficult times after the 1998 monetary crisis.
