Investment Interest Remains High, China Plants IDR 1.67 Trillion Investment In Indonesia's Coconut Processing Sector
JAKARTA - Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Perkasa Roeslani emphasized that China's economic slowdown did not immediately reduce investment interest in Indonesia.
"With China, we are quite active with engagement. I see that their appetites remain high. They remain high in Indonesia and not only in mineral management. They also enter management, for example, coconut," he told the media crew, Tuesday, July 29.
He explained that one of the coconut processing companies from China had started investment in Indonesia and had even laid the first stone (groundbreaking).
Rosan added that previously, coconuts from Indonesia were exported to China in raw form, but in the future, the processing process will be carried out directly in the country.
"I talked and they have started groundbreaking as well. Recently, the management of coconut that was previously our coconut was exported to China without being processed. Now it will be processed here and they are the largest number one company in the world," he said.
Rosan added that the investment value invested reached 100 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp1.67 trillion (at an exchange rate of Rp16,401 per US dollar) per project.
However, he did not provide details regarding the number of projects in Indonesia, but stressed that there would be several cities planned to become other investment sites.

"In the first city, one city has an investment of 100 million dollars. Later they will invest in several cities. But one plan is 100 million dollars, and so far it turns out that I just found out that our coconut export figure is cheap, right, that's the price," he said.
According to Rosan, this investment not only has an impact on the manufacturing sector, but is also included in the investment realization of the plantation sector more broadly.
"But later it will be processed here so that our realization is now also included in the realization of plantations and not only for example in palm oil but also in other industries," he said.
