AS-China Continues Production In Stockholm To Reduce Trade Tariff Entrepreneurship
JAKARTA - US and Chinese officials started negotiations on the second day in Stockholm on Tuesday to resolve long-standing economic disputes.
As reported by Reuters on Tuesday, July 29, the meeting may not have resulted in a major breakthrough, but both sides could agree on an extension of another 90 days from the tariff ceasefire agreed in mid-May.
It could also pave the way for a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the end of the year, although Trump denies working hard to achieve it.
The delegates met for more than five hours on Monday in Rosenbad, Sweden's Prime Minister's office in the center of Stockholm.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was seen arriving in Rosenbad on Tuesday, July 29, the morning after a separate meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. Chinese Deputy Prime Minister He Lifeng also arrived at the scene.
No party gave a statement after the first day of negotiations.
China faces a deadline of August 12 to reach a sustainable tariff agreement with the Trump administration, after reaching an initial agreement in May and June to end the weeks-long escalation of rates and stop imports of rare earth minerals.
Without an agreement, global supply chains could face new turmoil due to US import duty rates returning to the three-digit level equivalent to bilateral trade embargoes.
Stockholm negotiations followed Trump's biggest trade deal with the European Union on Sunday, a 15% tariff for most European Union goods exports to the United States, and deals with Japan.

The Financial Times reported on Monday that the United States had stopped restrictions on technology exports to China to avoid interference in trade negotiations with Beijing and supported Trump's efforts to secure a meeting with Xi this year.
Trump dismissed the notion he wanted to meet Xi.
"This is not true, I'm not looking for anything! I might go to China, but it's just at President Xi's invitation, which has been extended. Otherwise, I'm not interested!" he wrote on Truth Social.
