Chairman Of The Golkar MPR Faction Calls The Governor's Proposal Chosen Center To Make Sense
JAKARTA - The chairman of the Golkar faction of the MPR RI, Melchias Markus Mekeng, said that the proposal of the General Chairperson of the PKB, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin regarding the governor being elected by the central government, was a reasonable proposal. Because according to him, the governor is functional to coordinate regional heads.
"It makes sense. Because the governor doesn't have any area. The area is in the regents. It has a coordination function," said Mekeng at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 29.
"If the function is coordination, just point it out from the central government. So that the central government knows the pulse in the area is from the governor," he continued.
Mekeng also agreed that regional heads such as regents and mayors were elected by the DPRD. According to him, Pilkada through the DPRD is more effective in finding qualified regional heads and minimal costs.
"If the DPRD chooses, people who are right are chosen. Not as long as people have money, they can continue to be regents, become governors. But people who have the quality, ability of their leaders, integrity of all kinds," explained Mekeng.
Mekeng criticized the opinion that the governor elected by the center would return to the old system and fight regional autonomy. According to him, the most important thing is that the people are prosperous in any system.
"If autonomy does not make the people prosperous, they must also think about it. Does autonomy make people prosperous? Not really. In the end, the people must be prosperous. Do you want any system," said Mekeng.
Previously, Cak Imin said that there were two things that came to the conclusion of PKB in the direct review of regional head elections.
"One thing is that the conclusion is that all regional heads run out of costs are expensive to become regional heads, who are sometimes irrational. Second, in the end, the local government also depends on the central government in all aspects, cannot be independent or autonomous," said Cak Imin at JCC Senayan, Wednesday, July 23.
Cak Imin said PKB wanted two patterns in regional head elections. The two patterns are that the governor is elected by the central government, while the regent is elected by the people through the DPRD.
