Deputy Foreign Minister For Urges Veto Rights Not To Be Used For Full Membership Of Palestine At The United Nations

JAKARTA - Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir on Monday urged that Veto rights not be used to prevent full Palestinian membership in the United Nations (UN).

He conveyed this ahead of attending the "High Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution" which was held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, United States on July 28-30.

"We must ensure that the momentum in realizing the solution of the two countries is maintained after the conference, including not vetoing the full membership of the Palestinian State at the United Nations," said Deputy Foreign Minister Tata, as he is familiarly called, quoted from Anadolu July 29.

Deputy Foreign Minister Tata stressed the importance of building "credible and equal security guarantees for both parties through the termination of violence and recognition of the same right to safety."

"We need to empower the Palestinian Authority to manage security independently and fully assume responsibility in Gaza and the West Bank, with the aim of encouraging the unification of all Palestinian authorities under one legitimate and democratic national government," said Deputy Foreign Minister Tata.

The 193-member UN General Assembly decided in September last year that a conference on the implementation of the two-state solution will be held in 2025. The meeting, which was chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, was postponed from the original schedule last June.

Deputy Foreign Minister Tata thanked France for "the bold decision to recognize the Palestinian state," and added "when persuasion fails only concrete actions according to its own powers and international laws are needed to show the right path."

"Indonesia urges countries and other leaders to take advantage of this momentum towards our goal, namely a two-state solution, by emulating France," he added.

Last week, President Emmanuel Macron announced France would recognize the Palestinian State at the UN General Assembly in September.

To note, a spokesman for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rolliansyah Soemirat, said that some time ago, Indonesia and Italy chaired one of the working groups from the conference, which discussed specifically the security aspects related to the two countries or regionals within the framework of implementing two-state solutions.

Meanwhile, the Veto rights are owned by five permanent members of the UN Security Council which includes China, France, Russia, Britain and the US.

Last January, Deputy Foreign Minister Tata must be able to affirm its relevance, calling for a halt in the midst of an increasingly complex global situation, while attending the UN DK open session discussing Middle East and Palestinian issues at the United Nations Headquarters.

In the midst of an increasingly complex global situation, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia called for, especially the permanent member state of the UN DK, to stop the deadlock and encourage the reform of UN DK.

Last year, China as a member of the UN DK and owner of Veto Rights, through Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin urged relevant countries not to create barriers to Palestinian membership in the United Nations (UN), not to continue to oppose the international community, international justice and human conscience, quoted from Xinhua.
