Deaths Due To Malnutrition Rise, Doctors Express Residents' Conditions In Starvational Gaza
JAKARTA - The World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that more and more residents in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, are experiencing malnutrition. A total of 74 deaths related to malnutrition were recorded in 2025 in Gaza, with 63 of them occurring this July.
This happened because the residents there could not get enough food intake and hunger. Deputy medical coordinator for Medecins Sans Frontieres (District Doctor), Dr Mohammed Abu Mughaisib, said that hunger can paralyze the human body for damaging vital organs.
In the first six hours without food, the body begins to burn its glycogen reserves. This is stored sugar which functions as an emergency fuel," said Doctor Mughaisib, quoted from NDTV World, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
"My job is to sacrifice her own network just to survive. That's when the kids stopped crying," he added.
Starvation in Gaza is not only experienced by local residents including children, but also experienced by Doctor Mughaisib. He said that no food could be bought and processed in that place.
Over the last few months, I have survived with one meal a day. And in the last few days, I have even eaten once every two days," he said.
"Not because I can't afford it, but because there's nothing to buy. The market is completely empty," he continued.
In the latest report, it was also revealed that health workers in Gaza collapsed due to hunger while transporting patients. Ambulance drivers are also starving, and many children are increasingly concerned about their condition.
Doctor Mughaisib said that the medical team was very expected to save the lives of Gazans. However, the lives of the medical teams themselves are now also threatened with hunger.

According to him, this condition must be addressed immediately for the common good. He hopes that assistance will be given immediately and can be distributed smoothly to Gaza.
It's not just about hunger, but about slowly destroying life, capability and humanity. This must be stopped, using food, water, and aid as weapons in this world, absolutely unacceptable," concluded Doctor Mughaisib.
