Queen Atut Has Officially Been Dismissed From The Position Of Governor Of Banten In History Today, July 29, 2015
JAKARTA History today, 10 years ago, July 29, 2015, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially dismissed Queen Atut Chosiyah from the position of Governor of Banten. The decision was taken because Atut was found guilty and convicted of a corruption case.
Previously, Atut's political dynasty brought many problems in Banten. These problems include the rampant practice of corruption, collusion, and nepotism (KKN). Atut himself got the sap. He was proven to have bribed the chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK), Akil Mochtar.
The role of parents can be decisive in his family's political career. Take the family of Chasan Sochib. The Jawara who is also a businessman from Banten is able to give a successful path to the political stage to his family, from his wife to children. Take Atut for example.
The first child from Chasan was able to become Deputy Governor of Banten in 2002. However, that position did not make Atut satisfied. He with the support of his parents to run in the 2006 Banten Pilgub and win.
Atut later officially became Governor of Banten in early 2007. That position made Atut like a king in Banten. He began to carry out a mission to build a political dynasty. Members of his family then appeared on the political map of Banten, from executive to legislative levels.
The power made the Chasan clan have access to mastery and use of regional budgets. As a result, the practice of KKN is rife in Banten. Atut's leadership often gets criticism from various parties.
Criticism was dimmed by itself because of the power of Atut and his large family. Everything changed when Atut tried to bribe Akil Mochtar regarding the handling of the Lebak Pilkada dispute. Atut wanted the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court to win the lawsuit of the candidate pair for regent/wabup Amir-Hamzah-Kasmin regarding the 2013 Lebak Pilkada.
The Rp1 billion fund was prepared for Akil. The KPK immediately sniffed out bribery. As a result, Atut was later convicted by the Corruption Court, Jakarta on September 1, 2014. Atut was sentenced to four years in prison. Atut then appealed and his sentence was increased by seven years in prison.
"Declaring that the defendant Ratu Atut Chosiyah is legally and convincingly proven to have committed a criminal act of corruption together," said presiding judge Matheus Samiaji as quoted on the detik.com page, September 1, 2014.
Atut's problem reached President Jokowi. Jokowi considers state officials ethically should resign because they were caught in a corruption case. However, Atut did not do it. Jokowi also took the attitude of dismissing Atut from the position of Governor of Banten on July 29, 2015.
The termination was confirmed by the issuance of Presidential Decree (Kepres) Number 63/P of 2015. Jokowi immediately gave instructions for the Deputy Governor of Banten, Rano Karno to be appointed Governor of Banten.
"The presidential decree for the dismissal of Mrs. Atut as Governor of Banten only came down after it was announced in the plenary session of the Banten Provincial DPRD. After it was approved by the President through the Minister of State Secretary, only the presidential decree (Rano Karno's appointment) was issued and the inauguration would be proposed at the State Palace by the President," said the Minister of Home Affairs, Tjahjo Kumolo as quoted by the COMPASS.com page, July 29, 2015.
