The Wave Of Penculikan 36 Perempuan Belum Tuntas, Amnesty Desak Syria Tidak Tumple Mata

Amnesty International urges the interim government of Syria led by Ahmed al-Sharaa to investigate the kidnapping of 36 women and girls from Alawi.

In its report, Amnesty said the kidnapping was part of acts of violence and massacres at the heart of the coastal area of Alawi, Syria in March 2025.

The human rights group (HAM) is pushing for accountability for the perpetrators amid a continuing instability after the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime by the end of 2024.

Alawi's community, which has been devastated by previous massacres, was deeply shaken by the wave of kidnappings. Women and girls are afraid to leave the house or walk alone," said Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard, Monday, July 28, quoted from AFP.

Amnesty estimates that 1,700 people, mostly Alawi civilians, were killed in the incident.

A committee investigating the violence last week said it had not received a kidnapping report involving women or girls.

In the course of investigating this incident, Amnesty recorded eight kidnapping cases in Latakia, Tartus, Homs, and Hama Provinces since February 2025.

In two cases in this incident, officials reportedly blamed the victim's family. Only two of the eight girls and girls who were kidnapped have returned home.

Meanwhile, the families of the victims who reported this violence did not receive a maximum response from the authorities because the investigation was deemed incomplete.
