Another characteristic of regional songs is that it is not known who the creator is, aka anonymity. This feature even occurs in most regional songs. Examples of an anonymous regional songs are Rasa Sayang (Maluku), Ampar-Ampar Pisang (South Kalimantan), or Cublak-Cublak Suweng (Central Java).

In Indonesia, regional songs are sung verbally. The teaching of Indonesian regional songs is not done in writing. This reason also makes experts argue that regional songs are a verbal tradition.

Regional moral teachings in Indonesia are usually conveyed in various forms, one of which is in the form of a song. This means that local songs usually contain advice, moral values, or teaching of life taught for generations. For example, songs in the Central Java region that contain philosophy of life for example are Gembang Suling, Lir-Ilir, and many more.

Cengkok regional songs are most likely different from each region. Sundanese songs will be different from other Javanese songs. Cengkok songs from Papua are also different from others.

The musicality system in traditional regional songs is different from modern songs. The song system in question is a different tone ladder and rhythm pattern. For example, the song "Gundul-Gundul Pacul" from Central Java uses a slendro or pelog tone ladder, which is a traditional tone system from Java. In contrast to the song "Janger" from Bali which has a fast and dynamic rhythmic pattern.
