ThorCon Cooperation, PLN Nusantara Power Explores Nuclear Technology In Bangka Belitung

JAKARTA - PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) seeks to explore the potential for nuclear energy as part of the future clean energy mix through a strategic collaboration with ThorCon International Pte. Ltd. This collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday, July 24.

Together with Thorcon, PLN NP is currently preparing a comprehensive study to assess the feasibility of developing a Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) in the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands.

"We believe that energy diversification is the key to national energy resilience and independence. This study is part of PLN NP's efforts to provide reliable, safe and sustainable low-carbon energy sources for Indonesia," said PLN Nusantara Power President Director Ruly Firmansyah, Tuesday, July 29.

As part of a strategic collaboration, he continued, PLN Nusantara Power and ThorCon agreed to carry out a joint study related to the plan to develop Nuclear Power Plants (PLTN) in Bangka Belitung Islands Province. This study will include a comprehensive evaluation of reactor technology, aspects of safety, operations, and design, as well as financial analysis and options for project cooperation schemes as well as in preparation for the implementation of the first PLTN project in Indonesia.

President Director of PT Thorcon Power Indonesia Niels Berger sees the collaboration with PLN NP as one of the doors to open the potential for the development of new and renewable energy in Indonesia.

"We see Indonesia as a country with great potential to lead in the use of safe and efficient nuclear technology. This collaboration is an initial milestone to present a clean and stable long-term energy solution," said Niels Berger.
