PLN Successfully Changes 2.2 Tons Of Garbage Into School Buildings In Sumba

PT PLN (Persero) inaugurated a new building for the Kanak-Kanak Park (TK) Negeri Kalu Manandang in Kambera District, East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Through the PLN Peduli Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, this school was built using processed ecoblock materials from 2.2 tons of recycled plastic bottle waste.

PLN's Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and TJSL, Gregorius Adi Trianto explained that this project is a tangible manifestation of multi-party collaboration in creating sustainable social and environmental impacts.

Every Indonesian child has the right to receive proper education, including children in East Sumba. The development of TK Kalu Manandang is a symbol of collaboration and innovation in the management of plastic waste which is of direct benefit to the world of education and the environment," he said, quoted on Tuesday, July 29.

General Manager of PLN NTT Regional Main Unit, F Eko Sulistyono added that since its establishment in 2008, TK Negeri Kalu Manandang has not yet owned its own building and has to move locations for learning activities.

"Right on National Children's Day, we present the new building of TK Negeri Kalu Manandang as a gift for Sumba's future. We hope that this school will be born with a golden generation that is smart and cares about the environment. PLN UIW NTT is committed to continuing to support the advancement of education in this area," explained Eko.

The construction of this school is the result of collaboration between PLN and various parties. This is the first school that PLN built with ecoblock materials, as a safe environmentally friendly innovation and has no impact on health as an educational infrastructure as well as answering the challenges of plastic waste management.

The new Kalu Manandang TK Negeri building is now equipped with two permanent classrooms, toilet and sanitation facilities, as well as various learning facilities such as laptops, printers, reading books, stationery, educational props, and children's games. PLN also handed over assistance in the form of school uniforms for students.
