Mentrans Reveals 3 Local Governments Propose Transmigrant Placement
DENPASAR - Minister of Transmigration (Mentrans) M Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara revealed that three local governments (Pemda) had submitted requests for the placement of transmigrants in their regions.
The three areas are West Sulawesi, Sidrap Regency, and South Sulawesi, with a pattern of 70 percent of local residents and 30 percent of migrants.
"Our focus is on inclusive and sustainable development that creates jobs and supports Indonesia's vision of Gold 2045," said the Minister of Transmigration at a press conference at the National Transmigration Technical Working Meeting, at the Bali Convention Center, Denpasar, Bali, Monday, July 28.
He said the interest of people who took part in the transmigration program was still high, with as many as 8,000 families (KK) who wanted to register.
On the other hand, currently the placement is carried out more directedly, according to the regional request that propose the placement of transmigration, including South Papua with Indigenous Papuans (OAP), is a priority.
"The placement of new transmigrants can only be done if there is an official request from the regional government (Pemda) for the purpose," said Iftitah.
He explained that transmigration is currently not just moving residents, but directing superior human resources (HR) to support local economic growth.
"Since the enactment of Law (UU) No. 29 of 2009, regions can no longer be used as transmigration locations without requests from their local governments. If there is no request, then there will be no transmigrant immigrants," he said.

According to him, the great potential that can be developed in the transmigration area and appreciation to the local government (Pemda) for supporting the transmigration program.
In East Sumba, for example, we encourage the development of sugar cane and sugar factories. Central and regional coordination is the key to success. We hope that from this working meeting, big ideas and input will be born so that in the future transmigration will have an impact," said Iftitah.
The National Transmigration Technical Working Meeting took place from 27 to 30 July 2025, which was attended by all local governments (Pemda) and regional apparatus organizations (OPD) related to transmigration.
In this activity, a cross-sectoral cooperation was also carried out to strengthen the transmigration ecosystem.
