SKK Migas Implements Swap Scheme To Meet Domestic LNG Needs

JAKARTA - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) has implemented a gas wap scheme to meet the needs of domestic liquid natural gas or Liquified Natural Gas (LNG).

Head of the SKK Migas Program and Communication Division, Hudi D Suryodipuro, revealed that currently SKK Migas has allocated at least 70 percent of LNG for domestic purposes, including for the needs of power plants.

"The point is there is a gas swap. So if for example from our side, we will solve it periodically," said Hudi, quoted Monday, July 28.

He explained that this swap scheme was carried out to divert some of the gas export quota to meet domestic gas needs. On the other hand, this swap process is carried out in stages considering that there is a negotiation and evaluation process between SKK Migas and buyers.

"So far, for example, if we talk in general, almost 70 percent of the gas supply is aimed at domestically," continued Hudi.

Meanwhile, 30 percent of the LNG generated is an export quota that has been included in the business-to-business contract and must be fulfilled.

Regarding LNG for electricity supply to PLN Energi Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI), Hudi said the need had been included in the allocation of 70 percent for domestic.

This, he said, is in line with the direction of President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia who required the fulfillment of domestic needs first.

Previously in his presentation on the performance of the first semester, Deputy for Finance and Commercialization of SKK Migas Kurnia Chairi said SKK Migas had rescheduled LNG's export schedule as a result of increasing demand in the domestic market.

Furthermore, Kurnia said, throughout the first semester of 2025, SKK Migas managed to sell 15 cargoes of fast sales or domestic cargo spots.

Meanwhile, LNG production in 2025 is estimated at 237.8 cargoes with details of 53.8 cargoes originating from Bontang in East Kalimantan and 184 cargoes from Tangguh facilities.

"About 53.8 cargoes of Bontang, and 184 cargoes of Tangguh," said Kurnia.
