Diabetes Threatens, Health Office Says Jakarta Youth Lacks Sports All Day

Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Dwi OKtavia (Lies), revealed that currently many teenagers in Jakarta are threatened with diabetes.

Lies sees that many teenagers in Jakarta do not maintain a healthy lifestyle, ranging from rarely exercising and staying in place all day long.

"Our activities sit more in front of computers or gadgets even for children and adolescents who are school-age, especially in people who work and lack physical activities, lack sports," Lies told reporters, Monday, July 28.

In addition, the menu of healthy 4 5 foods is also not a priority. They prefer to choose foods with high levels of sugar, salt, and fat.

"If it was 20-30 years ago, we would hear more often people with diabetes at an elderly age. Now at a young age, people aged 30-40 have suffered from diabetes, hypertension," explained Lies.

Therefore, the DKI Health Office will carry out a program to build healthy living habits in schools by increasing physical activity and providing knowledge about healthy foods.

"We will make it in the form of a game. We will start from the high school group. If they practice healthy activities, they can get points. Later the points are collected, we will provide rewards," explained Lies.

"We will start immediately in several pilot high schools in Jakarta, we will name this program Jakstar because these are young people who in the future we hope to have healthy living behavior," he added.

In addition, the Health Office also opened a telephone consultation service accompanied by professional psychologists. This channel will help residents solve mental health problems.

"So that's what we need to do so that the number of non-communicable diseases does not get easier," he added.
