Ahead Of The Ceasefire Dialogue, Thailand Ragu Cambodia Intentions To End The Border War

JAKARTA - Dialogue towards a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia initiated by the US and China was held in Malaysia today, Monday, July 28 afternoon WIB.

Ahead of his departure to Malaysia, the Acting Prime Minister (PM) of Thailand, Pomtham Wechayachai, was hesitant about Cambodia's writing ending the war on the border.

"We are not sure about Cambodia, their actions so far reflect an imprecise in resolving the issue," he told reporters before his departure to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Monday, July 28, quoted by Reuters.

"Camboja has violated international law, but everyone wants peace. Nobody wants to see violence that has an impact on civilians," he continued.

Both Thailand and Cambodia have accused each other of starting a war on the border disputed by the two countries last week.

Today, officials from both countries said clashes along the disputed border were still ongoing ahead of negotiations that would take place this afternoon.

On this same day, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet revealed negotiations or dialogue this afternoon to end the deadliest fighting in more than a decade between the two neighboring countries in Southeast Asia.

Malaysia was chosen as the place of discussion because of the status of this period as the head of the regional ASEAN block.
