There Are Still Other Activities, Azis Syamsuddin Does Not Comply With The KPK's Summons

JAKARTA - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators canceled examining Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Azis Syamsuddin. Azis was summoned as a witness for KPK investigator AKP Stepanus Robin Pattuju, a suspect who took bribes.

Azis canceled his examination because he sent a letter confirming his absence and stated that there were other activities to be carried out.

"The information we received today (gave, ed) a written confirmation that he could not attend the summons because there was still an agenda for activities being carried out," said Acting KPK spokesman for the field of prosecution Ali Fikri to reporters, Friday, May 7.

Furthermore, the KPK will again summon this Golkar Party politician. "Regarding the time, we will inform further," he said.

Previously reported, the KPK appointed its investigator, Stepanus Robin Pattuju, a lawyer named Maskur Husain and the Mayor of Tanjungbalai M. Syahrial as suspects in the alleged bribery case in the handling of the sale and purchase of positions at the Tanjungbalai City Government.

Apart from that, in this case the name of Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Azis Syamsuddin, also appeared. He is said to have introduced Stepanus and M Syahrial in his official residence. This Golkar Party politician is thought to know Stepanus from his aide who is both from the Bhayangkara Corps.

Stepanus Robin Pattuju and Maskur Husain are suspected of having received a bribe from M. Syahrial amounting to Rp 1.3 billion from the Rp 1.5 billion deal. The bribe was given so that Stepanus would help stop the investigation into the alleged sale and purchase of positions in Tanjungbalai that the KPK is currently investigating.

In this case, the KPK has also conducted searches in a number of places including Azis's office in the DPR Building and his private and official residence. From this search, investigators found documents and other items that are suspected of being related to the alleged bribery.
