Mount Dukono In North Maluku Erupts Again, Vomits Volcanic Ash Reaches 3,500 Meters

JAKARTA - Mount Dukono in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku (Malut) erupted 127 times by ejecting volcanic ash up to 3,500 meters from the top of the mountain.

"Starting Sunday (July 27) at 00-00 WIT to 23.59 WIT, 127 eruptions have been recorded," said PGA Officer Dukono M Saum Amin in a statement in Ternate, Monday, July 28, quoted by Antara.

He explained that the eruption of Mount Dukono emitted white and gray ash which was mostly covered in fog.

"The weather is sunny, cloudy, cloudy, and rainy, while the wind is blowing weakly, moderately, to strong, to the north, northeast, southwest, west, and northwest. The air temperature is 25-30 degrees Celsius," he said.

Utnuk currently, he said, the condition of the volcano as high as 1,087 meters above sea level (masl) is still at Level II or Alert status.

Therefore, he continued, the people around Mount Dukono and visitors and tourists are advised not to climb and approach the Maupang Warirang Crater within a four-kilometer radius.

"Given that the eruption with volcanic ash periodically occurs and the distribution of ash follows the direction and speed of the wind, so that the area of the ash land is not fixed," said M Saum Amin.

He asked the people around Mount Dukono to always provide masks or nasal and mouth coverings to be used when needed to avoid the threat of volcanic ash in the respiratory system.
