PKS Legislator Agrees To Separate Pilkada: So As Not To Drown The Pikuk Pilkada National Election

JAKARTA - Member of Commission II of the DPR RI from the PKS faction, Mardani Ali Sera agreed with the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the separation of National Elections and Regional Elections. According to him, the separation of national elections from regional elections is a good step to increase public participation.

Moreover, said Mardani, so far local elections have often been immersed in the frenzy of the National Election, especially in the context of the presidential election.

"The idea of separating national elections from local elections is good. Because public engagement (public engagement) is getting stronger. Moreover, so far local elections have always been drowned by the hustle and bustle of national elections. The presidential election is especially," said Mardani, Monday, July 28.

Mardani assessed that the Constitutional Court's decision, which was approved by all Constitutional Court judges without a dissenting opinion, was also good for strengthening regional autonomy. He also emphasized that not all power must be centered in DKI Jakarta alone.

"The Constitutional Court's decision is now approved by all Constitutional Court Judges. There is no dissenting opinion. So far, the decision-making process in the Constitutional Court is always transparent. Including the opinion of every judge is published openly," explained Mardani.

"The separation is also good for strengthening regional autonomy. That not all are centered in Jakarta. Regional issues can be discussed in more detail and in depth. So that regional strength can grow," continued the PKS legislator from the DKI Jakarta II electoral district.

Members of the commission in the DPR who are in charge of regional electoral and autonomy affairs are also not sure that the Constitutional Court's decision to separate elections violates the constitution as conveyed by a number of parties. Because, said Mardani, the Constitutional Court judges certainly have a very deep understanding of the constitution.

"Is this a violation of the constitution? I'm not sure. They (the Constitutional Court judges) have deep understanding of the constitution. But this is good to be a public discourse. We are waiting for the answer of the Constitutional Court judge," said the Chairman of the BKSAP DPR.

Therefore, Mardani ensured that Commission II of the DPR RI would continue to follow developments related to the Constitutional Court's decision. He encouraged this discourse to involve more parties in order to create a fairer and more efficient electoral system in the future.

He also said that the final decision would be a consensus for the parties in the DPR with the Government.

"In the end, all parties, both in the legislative, executive, and in the Constitutional Court, have the same intention to advance Indonesia's democracy and ensure that the democratic process runs better and stronger in the future," concluded Mardani.

As is known, the Constitutional Court has decided on a request for judicial review of the Law in case Number 135/PUU-XXII/2024. The Constitutional Court has decided to separate elections at the national and regional levels in 2029.

The national election includes elections for members of the DPR, DPD, and the president and vice president, while local elections consist of elections for provincial/district/city DPRD members as well as regional head elections and deputy heads.

Dalam keputusan tersebut pemilu tingkat lokal diadakan paling singkat 2 tahun atau paling lama 2.5 tahun setelah pemilu nasional.
