Pogacar Unstoppable, Achieves The Fourth Tour De France Title

JAKARTA - Tadedj Pogacar has made history in the world of cycling after winning the fourth Tour de France title on Sunday 27 July, confirming his status as the greatest rider in his generation. The 26-year-old Slovenian rider from the UAE Team Emirates XRG team is now on par with British legend Chris Froome, on the list of the top titles with four yellow trophies.

Pogacar showed almost perfect performance during three weeks of racing, even almost beating the last iconic stage at Champs-Elysees, Paris, before finally being beaten by Wout van Arent in a fierce duel at the Montmartre incline.

"I ran out of words. Winning the fourth Tour de France was really amazing. Six years in a row I always went on the podium, but this time it felt very special. I am very proud to be wearing this yellow jersey," Pogacar said after the honor ceremony.

Although the organizers frozen the time recording about 50 kilometers before finishing due to heavy rains that made the track slippery, it did not stop Pogacar's enthusiasm to attack. However, Van Aert appeared more resilient and managed to separate himself from the group, winning the last stage of defeating Davide Ballerini (Italy) and Matej Mohoric (Slovenia), with Pogacar finishing fourth.

Pogacar has actually locked up victory in the standings since etape in the Pyrenees Mountains, when launching a brutal attack on Hautacam's incline, and dominating in a time trial climb that left Denmark's main competitor, Jonas Vingegaard, more than four minutes behind. Vingegaard, who has won the Tour de France twice, had to settle for finishing second with a time difference of 4 minutes 24 seconds from Pogacar.

In third place is the debutant from Germany, Florian Lipowitz, who is 11 minutes behind Pogacar. Apart from taking the podium, Lipowitz also managed to win the white jersey as the best driver under the age of 25.

Pogacar not only triumphed in the general standings. He also won the pole-dot jersey as the king of the incline, proving his dominance in all race terrains. On the other hand, Jonathan Milan from Italy appeared consistent and succeeded in securing the green jersey for the best classification of points or sprinters.

Meanwhile, the Ineos Grenadiers team, which once dominated the 2010s decade through names such as Bradley Wrapress, Chris Froome, and Geraint Thomas, is now getting dimmer. Apart from the two wins by Thymen Arensman, there is not much to be proud of. Geraint Thomas, who underwent his last Tour, was barely visible during the race, in the midst of the shadow of the doping accusations that have continued to haunt the British team in recent weeks.

Like the Tour de France tradition, drivers enter Paris in an atmosphere of celebration. However, this closing stage is far from routine. Three climbs to Montmartre created tensions until the end, making the closure of the Tour de France 2025 one of the most dramatic in modern history.

With this victory, Tadedj Pogacar is now only one title behind the great legends such as Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Jacques Anquetil, and Miguel Indurain who have each collected five Tour de France titles. If this trend continues, the world of bicycle racing may be witnessing the rise of new legends.
