West Java Provincial Government Denies Leakage Of Data 4.6 Million Residents, Hacker Uploads Considered Unfounded

BANDUNG The West Java Provincial Government through the Communication and Information Office (Diskominfo) denied reports that the personal data of millions of West Java residents had leaked.

Head of West Java Diskominfo Mas Adi Komar emphasized that the information was not true based on the results of the search and validation carried out by his party.

"Based on the results of our search and validation, we ensure that the data leak claims managed by the West Java Provincial Government are not true," Adi said in Bandung, Antara, Sunday, July 27.

Previously, an account with the name 'DigitalGhostt' uploaded a claim on social media platform X, stating that it had broken into and had personal data belonging to 4.6 million West Java residents.

The upload was accompanied by a screenshot of a dark web forum showing a data offer with a label 4.6 million data of West Java Indonesian citizens [DATABASE], complete with the West Java Provincial Government's official logo and information about sensitive types of data such as full name, address, NIK, email, to work.

However, Adi ensured that the upload did not match the facts.

"The West Java Provincial Government remains committed to maintaining the security of government data and public personal data," he said.

Adi added that data security measures were carried out through strengthening information security technology, coordinating with relevant government agencies, and increasing awareness of all apparatus regarding the importance of data protection.

"We continue to strengthen the information security system in order to be able to respond to various potential digital threats, including issues that do not necessarily have a valid basis as currently circulating," he said.

The West Java Provincial Government also appealed to the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked by information that is not yet clear.

"We invite the public to respond wisely to information on social media. If there is information that doubts, immediately confirm it with the competent agency," said Adi.

To ANTARA, Adi also admitted that hacking efforts had indeed occurred, but he ensured that all strategic systems and data were still safe.

"We continue to monitor hacking attempts. Until now, Alhamdulillah, it is still under control and protected," he said, without specifying how often the hacking attempt occurred.

From the search, the 'DigitalGhostt' account is known to be an active user of the dark web forum and has a high reputation in the community of buying and selling hacked data. This account is also said to have broken into 700 thousand individual data at the Ministry of Defense, according to a tweet from another account, @H4ckmanac.
