West Java Provincial Government Banks Issues 4.6 Million Personal Data Of Citizens Hacked By Hackers
JAKARTA - An account with the name "DigitalGhostt" on the social media platform X claims to have broken into and controlled the personal data belonging to 4.6 million residents of West Java (West Java).
In his upload on July 10, 2025 at 16.33 WIB, the account wrote a quote in English that questioned Indonesia's cyber security in protecting its citizens' data.
"Hello Indonesian people (specially the people of West Java), could your personal data be in my position? Where is the cyber defense? Is it sleep on a pile of money? (This means: Hello, Indonesian people (mainly the people of West Java), is it possible that your personal data is in my hands? Where is the cyber defense? Did he fall asleep on a pile of money ?)," wrote the account as seen by ANTARA, Sunday 27 July.
The tweet was accompanied by a screenshot of a dark web forum containing a data offering labeled "4.6 million data of West Java Indonesian citizens [DATABASE]". And the West Java Provincial Government's official logo and the writings of the Regional Government and Autonomy Bureau from the Regional Secretariat (Pemotda) of West Java Province in it, as well as a description of data that includes sensitive information including addresses, full names, Population Identification Numbers (NIK), emails and work.
For the upload that took one of the regional apparatus organizations (OPD) within the West Java Provincial Government, the Head of the West Java Regional Government Bureau Faiz Rahman said this was not true.
"Not true," said Faiz briefly.

However, although the authenticity of the data cannot be verified in detail, the upload has the potential to become information as one of the largest data leaks in Indonesia or at least in West Java.
Meanwhile, a cybersecurity expert from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Budi Rahardjo, said that although it must be verified, it is very likely that what DigitalGhostt said which claims to have broken into and pocketed millions of data from West Java residents is true.
"Usually, if it's like this, it's usually true. But we have to verify first, but usually it's true, it's true to break into it," said Budi when confirmed by reporters.
To note, the DigitalGhostt account is an active user of the dark web forum. He has a number of high uploads and reputations in the community that are commonly used for buying and selling hacked data.
Meanwhile, the @H4ckmanac account tweet revealed that DigitalGhostt is said to be the same hacker who once broke into 700 thousand individual data at the Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan).
Until the news was written, there had been no official statement from related parties in the West Java Provincial Government, namely the West Java Communication and Information Office (Diskominfo).
