Sunday Morning, Mount Dukono Eruption Reaches 3000 Meters
Sunday, July 27 morning local time, there was an eruption in Mount Dukono, North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku. The Volcano Observation Post (PGA) Dukono reported that at 05.45 the volcanic ash burst had soared to 3,000 meters above the top of the mountain.
"Gunung Dukono this morning erupted with a column of ash observed as high as 3,000 meters," said PGA Officer Dukono Bambang Sugiono in a written statement received at Ternate, citing ANTARA on Sunday, July 27.
According to him, the ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity leaning towards the southwest and northwest.
He explained that the eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 33 mm and a duration of 129.66 seconds from the Dukono PGA Post in Mamuya Village, Galela District.
"Currently, the condition of the volcano as high as 1,087 meters above sea level is at Level II or Alert," he said.

Therefore, he continued, the people around Mount Dukono and visitors and tourists are advised not to climb and approach the Maupang Warirang Crater within a 4 kilometer radius.
"The appeal was conveyed considering that eruptions with volcanic ash periodically occurred and the distribution of ash followed the direction and speed of the wind, so that the land area of ash did not remain," said Bambang.
He asked the people around Mount Dukono to always provide masks or nasal and mouth coverings to be used when needed to avoid the threat of volcanic ash in the respiratory system.
