The Community Complains About Dust Due To The Cancer Building Project In Manado, This Is The Response Of Hutama Karya
JAKARTA - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) (Hutama Karya) responded to complaints from the public regarding dust that appeared on social media due to the environmental impact of the Integrated Cancer Service Building construction project at Dr. Kandou Manado, in mid-July 2025.
Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary Hutama Karya Adjib Al Hakim claimed that his party had responded quickly through a series of comprehensive mitigation measures to ensure public comfort and hospital operational sustainability were maintained during the construction period.
"Immediately after receiving information on complaints from social media, we immediately carried out verification and investigations in the field. The project management team then strengthened the dust control efforts that had been implemented since the beginning of the project," said Adjib in a written statement, Friday, July 25.
Adjib said that the strengthened control measures include increasing the intensity of road access watering from twice a day to five times a day, including during dense hours of hospital operations, namely 11.00, 15.00 and 21.00 WITA.
"In addition, we also ensure the cleanliness of large vehicles leaving the project site and adding to the installation of net safety nets in the building area," he said.
He added, based on the results of a 24-hour ambient air quality test conducted by the Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environment (QHSSE) team, it showed that all the parameters tested did not exceed the environmental quality standards set.
"This shows the impact of dust is still within safe limits, but it still requires continuous monitoring and control," he explained.
Even so, said Adjib, the progress of the construction of the hospital will continue as scheduled.
As of mid-July 2025, construction progress has reached 18 percent with important milestones in the form of resolving the casting of the radiotherapy bunker area.
According to Adjib, his party is optimistic that the project completion target in June 2026 can still be achieved.
He said the implementation of environmental control measures did not interfere with the development schedule because it had been integrated into project management systems from the start.
"In the next 3-4 months, Hutama Karya will focus on completing structural work which is the most critical phase in terms of the potential for dust to emerge," he concluded.
