Sampang Police Ban Sound Yerag At The Independence Day Of The Republic Of Indonesia

Sampang Police, East Java, prohibits the use of sound horeg in various types of activities, including in activities to enliven the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

"This ban refers to the East Java Regional Police's instructions regarding the use of the sound horeg," said Sampang Police Chief AKBP Hartono as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 25.

The police have instructed all Sampang Police personnel, including the ranks of the police to socialize the provisions to the public.

"The Police have also coordinated with the Sampang Regency Government regarding the provisions, including the organizing committee for the Indonesian Independence Anniversary competition," he said.

According to the Police Chief, the prohibition for the community to hold activities using the sound of the fire is because there are more disadvantages than the benefits.

Moreover, he continued, the East Java Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has issued a fatwa regarding the ban.

The police chief said that the Fatwa of the East Java MUI Council Number 1 of 2025 refers to the phenomenon that occurred in the field which stated that the sound of the horegdominant was negative, because it played music with a loud volume accompanied by the open dance of men and women, especially by opening aurat in public places or traveling around residential areas, so it was considered haram.

"The MUI considers that such activities deviate from the values of Islamic teachings and can disturb the community," he said.

Therefore, he continued, the East Java Regional Police also instructed the Polres ranks throughout East Java to pay attention to these provisions.

The police chief said that in Sampang Regency until now no sound horeg activity has been found. However, anticipatory steps must still be taken by monitoring developments in the field and providing education to the public.

"In Sampang, entertainment activities do exist, but they are still within reasonable limits and have not caused any disturbances," he said.
