Pramono Learns The Cause Of The Increase In The Number Of Poor People In Jakarta

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will study the cause of the number of poor people in Jakarta to increase in the March 2025 period from six months ago.

This portrait of the increase in poverty was revealed in the official release of the DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

"Regarding the poverty that was conveyed earlier, of course I will study it," said Pramono in Sarinah, Central Jakarta, Friday, July 25.

Pramono estimates that the increase in the number of poor people in Jakarta is not only due to a decrease in the economic condition of Jakarta's natives.

It is possible that the high poverty rate in Jakarta is also caused by the large number of migrants from various regions to try their luck in the capital city.

"Is it true that poverty is due solely to residents in Jakarta or, now the problem is that people have high hopes for coming to Jakarta," explained Pramono.

"It comes from various regions. So people looking for jobs in Jakarta are currently increasing significantly," he added.

The DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the number of poor people in Jakarta in March 2025 was 464.87 thousand people, an increase of 15.8 thousand people compared to September 2024 which reached 449.07 thousand people.

"The number of poor people is 464.87 thousand people, an increase of 15.8 thousand people for the position in March 2025 against September 2024 which was 449.07 thousand people," said Head of BPS DKI Jakarta Nurul Hasanudin, Friday, July 25.

The poverty rate in Jakarta in March 2025 was 4.28 percent, an increase of 0.14 percent compared to September 2024 which was 4.14 percent.

Based on DKI BPS records, when compared to March 2024, the poverty rate in March 2025 fell 0.02 percent, from 4.3 percent to 4.28 percent.

Even so, the poverty rate in DKI Jakarta is in third place nationally after Bali and South Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, the national poverty rate was recorded at 8.47 percent, with a total of 23.85 million poor people.

"For the urban poverty rate, of the 39 provinces in Indonesia, as many as 21 provinces experienced an increase in the poverty rate. And the increase (in poverty) in Jakarta was 0.14 percent," he explained.
