President Abbas Welcomes French Plan To Recognize Palestinian Country
JAKARTA - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed a letter from French President Emmanuel Macron confirming France would officially recognize the Palestinian State at the UN General Assembly in September.
President Abbas expressed his deep appreciation for France's bold move, which will contribute significantly to the achievement of peace based on two countries' solutions in line with international legitimacy and law.
"This step is a victory for the Palestinian cause," said President Abbas, launching WAFA July 25.
"This reflects France's sincere commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights to their homeland, in accordance with recognized international law and legitimacy," he said.
President Abbas further stressed that France's recognition is proof of the role of countries that believe in a two-state solution and are committed to saving it, given Israel's systematic efforts to weaken it, especially through the ongoing genocide war in Gaza.
He also urged all countries, especially European countries that have not recognized the Palestinian State, to recognize it based on two internationally supported solutions.
President Abbas also did not forget to re-emphasize the importance of supporting Palestine's full membership in the United Nations.
